Buford?

Last night we went to Turlock to see Mark Lowry - he is so funny, sings great and really - if you listen to him - very intellectual (at times he doesn't even realize it). So, we went - looking forward to a great night of laughing and that is just what we got. We were there early enough that we were FIRST in line and when they opened the doors, we wound up sitting in the front row in the first four seats - within spitting distance (and, according to Nanci, he did...). He sang, shared stories and made everyone laugh and have a great time.

One thing he was talking about was what if Mary had been told to name him Buford? Can you imagine it . .

Oh, victory in Buford . .
Oh how I love Buford . .
Buford is the sweetest name I know. . .
Buford, Buford, Buford - there's just something about that name....
 (I know you are singing these to see if Buford fits....)
but then he said something that really I had never thought of.... the name is not so important - it is not the name that makes Him who He is.. it is HIM that makes the name so special. He could have been Peter, Mark, David, Joseph, or yes, even Buford - but instead He is Jesus and because of who He is - he made the name something special.
Another thing I realized last night was how much I miss singing the old hymns in church. Before you get up in arms - I love most praise songs - they are fun to sing - but there is nothing like singing the hymns. Mark began singing "In the Garden" last night - and everyone joined in - and to hear 1000 people singing "In The Garden" was awesome. I wish we would sing them more and when we do sing them - sing them at the right tempo and not dragging and so slow it seems you are dying a slow death.

Anyway - a great night was had by all and we are looking forward to his next visit - whether it is solo or with the Gaither Vocal Band.

A Day in the life of...

The weather this week has been amazing! It is January and we had temp's in the high 60's and even into the 70's earlier in the week. This morning dawned and it was going to be another nice day - perfect for the outing that Nanci (sister) and Dave (hubby) and I had planned. We were going to the Rutherford Grill in Rutherford. We left this morning, did a few quick errands and picked Nanci up around 10:15. We got on the road and headed forward. It was a gorgeous ride - great company, easy music in the background, lots of fun to be had.

Lunch was amazing! It was so good - - we enjoyed it and tried some of each other's food. Dave got the rotisserie chicken, Nanci got the ahi tuna salad and I got the ribeye. YUM! We left there, drove through Rutherford and then into St Helena and into Calistoga before turning around and heading back home.  We discovered a Sonic drive in (in American Canyon) and so we planned to stop there for dessert. It was packed when we got there and there were no parking spots so we parked across the street and walked over, ordered our sundaes and sat at a table - eating ice cream and enjoying the day. During the day we came up with some fun ideas for where we can go on our monthly lunch dates ( next month is Tex Wasabi - Guy Fieri's restaurant in Santa Rosa) .  We are looking so forward to that trip already.

All in all, it was a fun, relaxing day that took us out away from everything that we typically do on a weekend and we just enjoyed ourselves immensely.

This week

So, this week brought back two of my favorite shows - American Idol and The Bachelor. I have become hooked on both of these - I love to watch someone "get their chance" to become a star - if that is what they really want, but I do love watching those who THINK they have what it takes when in reality they have nothing of the sort. I saw a promo of one girl crying so hysterically you would have thought her best friend or someone very close to her had just been hit by a car and killed. Really? I mean I know it is a chance to be on tv and all but to cry like that and throw yourself on the ground on your knees?
And the Bachelor? Well - who doesn't like to watch romance? I know that no couples ever seem to stay together after the show (except for this couple) but it is still fun to watch the romance, cat fights and this season Jason and his son, Ty.

I am also very excited, yet sad at the same time about news from the Gaither Vocal Band. Guy Penrod, who has been with the GVB for 14 years has left the group. But David Phelps, Michael English and Mark Lowry have all rejoined the group! These are amazing voices - but so was Guy. Marshall Hall also left the group, which I was not expecting and am not sure if it was because of those coming back or his choice. So, now the GVB has 5 singers (including Bill) who may be preparing for his departure too at some point. I am looking forward to hearing the "new" sound, but thought that the "current" group (Marshall, Wes, Guy, Bill) sounded the best they had in a long time.

But the best news this week by far is that Matthew is coming home next Saturday (the 24th) and I cannot wait to see him! He is going to drive his car back to Louisiana and there will be a blog about that whole situation coming ... but today I'm going to enjoy the fact that he is coming home! Woohoo! I can't wait to hang the banner out front and see his face when he sees it!

It's Thursday!

Well, it is Thursday tonight (well, all day actually) and it has been a fairly uneventful week. Shayne left on Sunday, we went back to work/school on Monday and are just cooking through the week waiting until the weekend tomorrow afternoon. I started another class on Tuesday so I have to get motivated to get into it now. It's just been that kind of week this week. I DID get my internship approved though so I can begin logging hours for that - woohoo!

I hope you are having a great week - - will check in soon...

Happy New Years - 2009

So, last night we had a New Years Party - believe it or not - I was awake until 1:45... I am NEVER awake that late but what a night we had! We had lots of food, games, fun and even ended with karaoke and I can't wait to show you what we recorded but I am in the process of trying to find out how to upload my videos from my new video camera onto the computer.. I got them on Dave's window based one, but can't figure it out on my Mac so, I may have to post the video from his computer - so ...

wait for it. You will NOT believe it (or maybe you will if you know me and our family..) but in the meantime,
The following prayer of St. Francis contains a powerful message...
"Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
It is in dying that we are born to eternal life."

May 2009 bring with it peace and joy. May it be blessed.
